Taking even small steps to cultivate calm goes a long way towards supporting our health. And, we need to remember, nobody is holding together particularly well through this time--it's defiantly the most challenging time I've ever faced.

There are steps we can take, though.  One effective way to tame anxiety is through movement. Remember how relaxed, calm, and centered you might have felt after a yoga class? That's is a good example of how moving the body can bring calm to the mind and heart.  Here’s a list of my top 5 ways to cultivate calm:

1. Breathe. This might be the most accessible way to calm your mind. Try it, right now, take 3 deep slow breaths, better? Repeat throughout the day as needed.

2. Prioritize sleep. Getting a good night’s rest benefits every single cell in our body. Turning off the light even 15 min. earlier can make a difference.  (And yes, I know getting good quality sleep is an entire project in itself.)

3. Eat regular meals and cut out snacks. When your gut is happy anxiety lessens. Try sticking with two to three solid meals a day for a few days and feel the difference.

4. Daily movement. (Even 5 min counts!).What’s the best movement to do? Whatever you like best: walking, swimming, dancing, cycling, yoga, basically anything, move your body and enjoy yourself.

5. Get outdoors. Studies show spending time in nature reduces negative emotions and lowers blood pressure. Can’t get outside? Even looking at nature photos or websites can help.
